A Letter from the IMAA Executive Director

Welcome to our website and an opportunity to find out more about the Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association. I would like to briefly explain what our organization provides to its members and some of the many benefits of membership in the Association.

Educational support - We schedule numerous workshops throughout the year, including Safety Training, Winter Workshops and the Operations Seminar.  Additional seminars are scheduled as needed.

Legislative advocacy - IMAA is a member of Build Indiana Council, a coalition of seven construction-related associations that closely watch state and federal legislative issues especially relating to funding. When issues arise affecting the construction industry, BIC takes action. IMAA Members play an important role in this process by contacting their legislators and apprising them of the long-range consequences of the legislation under consideration.  In addition to BIC, the IMAA is an Associate Member of the Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana and the Indiana Construction Association.  We work together on issues concerning the highway construction industry. Additionally, the National Stone, Sand, and Gravel Association contributes valuable information and support to our Association on matters at the national level.

Networking opportunities – we plan and put on numerous events throughout the year that provide good opportunities for members to network. One of the largest gatherings is our annual Winter Workshops and Trade Show. Usually occurring around the first week of February they attract over 400 industry persons. A Summer Meeting usually with an industry partner is geared toward a more relaxed family activity event. In September we schedule our annual Golf Fundraiser that hosts over 250 golfers.

Resources - The Association has a close working relationship with INDOT on matters concerning specifications, gravel usage as a highway surface material, aggregate certification, etc., through our Technical Committee. As needed we interface with many other state agencies including IDEM, IDNR, the State Fire Marshall’s office, and the Indiana Department of Commerce.

If requested, we can provide monthly INDOT contract information to our members that include the latest letting advertisements and letting results.

We also have a good relationship with MSHA and the NC district office director, Steve Richetta. We believe that good communications with MSHA at all levels is very important and we even have direct meetings with Assistant Secretary of Labor, Joe Main who heads up MSHA from time to time.

Committee strength – We have very active participation in the following committees: Aglime, Environmental, Legislative, Public Information & Education, Safety, and the Technical Committees.

In closing, we hope that you will join with us as we promote the aggregate industry in the state of Indiana.  We believe that membership in IMAA will prove to be very beneficial to your company and we are looking forward to hearing from you soon.
